Conservative Jews do this several times a say, and it's called "davening". It is a form of prayer, and signals communion with G-d. Also in Turkey, the so called "whirling dervishes" ( male) turn around and around in spiritual ecstasy, in unity with God's planets and the cosmos.

Some people in my old church used to do that. I don't think it's intentional with everyone, only some. I probably have done it once or twice, inadvertantly..... but not anywhere close to often. Maybe that's just how they pray, like when some people talk and walk around the room. OR, Maybe it's just nerves? LOL. â¥

I`ve wondered that in the past myself, and I`ve figured it out,.they rock back and forth because they are standing in church faking their prayers and they are trying to dodge the impending lightning strike,..so don`t stand next to them,.you might get singed !!
