left and right click buttons dont work either. is there a way to lock them? my 1 year old found it and pressed buttons.

Turn it off. Take an ordinary mouse and attach it to the PS2 port. Turn it back on. See if the external mouse works OK. If it does then you can at least use the laptop. Is it possible that your 1 year old had sticky fingers?

Right Click on My computer icon and select Manage. From left pane select Device Manager. On right pane select mice and other point device. Click on the option listed below it once and right click and select uninstall. Click on Ok. It will uninstall the drivers for touchpad and then restart the laptop. It will install automatically. Then again restart the laptop. It will works. :)
