I always thought of Ben Hogan personality-wise as being the neatest personage I have ever heard of.

I would have to say Bart Starr. He helped create a boy's ranch for troubled youth in the 60's that still exists to this day. It's called Rawhide and I have seen so many success stories come from the work they do. I actually did met him once and, personality-wise, he was just a decent person that wanted gave back to the community in the day when athletes weren't all about show and $.
