Does it mean that the lower is the version (or type) of the processor , the slower will be the speed? Can upgrading the memory increases the speed even if the processor version or type is the least?

A Pentium 4 is faster than a Celeron.

Upgrading memory will not increase the speed of the processor but will speed up the computer.

The only disadvantage of a pentium 4 in a laptop is they produce alot more heat.

Pentium 4, of course. The Celeron chips have a smaller L2 cache which means slower processing speeds.

If all you do is check e-mail and browse the Web, the Celeron is fine, and the price difference can save you a lot of money.

The processor speed really comes into play only when you are doing heavy processing like graphics , video editing or gaming.

Whether Celeron or Pentium 4, you still require sufficient RAM. So a Celeron with lots of RAM may well run smoother/faster than a Pentium 4 with minimum RAM.

The newer Celerons (3.0 GHZ and better) are single processors with a 512 L2 cache and a 533 mhz FSB. P4s similar in speed could be dual processors, have a 2 MB L2 cache and an 800 mhz FSB. There is no comparison, the P4 is vastly superior even though the Celeron is not a bad CPU.

Go to Tomshardware page - http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html.

Put in the processors to compare against. This is the best hardware page out there.

Enjoy.
