That is completely normal at this age. As breastfed newborns get a bit older, they can become very efficient at processing breastmilk with little or no waste. Most docs don't get concerned until 2 weeks or more without a BM. (My own daughter went more than two weeks without pooping for a few months. All that changed when we introduced solids at 6-months).
As long as he still is having wet diapers, and your doc insn't concerned, you shouldn't worry either!

Well, they don't have poop since they're not taking nutrients through their intestinal tract - it's meconium. Sometimes they do have a bowel movement in the amniotic sack, this is bad news - if it happens a long time before birth it means that some insult occurred to them during gestation - like a stroke in the placenta or something, during labor it means that there was stress (hard contractions) and the baby was stressed. Both instances can be medical emergencies, at the least they need to be cared for properly. No, the mom is the kidneys, lungs and digestive system for the fetus.

My two month old girl poops every 2 - 4 days. At first, also thought she constipated, but when checked with doc, he said it's ok up to 4 days as long as the poop is not hard and that she is not straining. If more than 4 days, then bring her see him.

7 to 10 days is totally normal for BF babys to not do a poo. Thats what a child health nurse told me a few weeks ago. Don't stress it will happen. My bub got constipated from eating Rice Cereal at 6 months and I know the worrying feeling. As a result I do not advocate Rice Cereal to anyone it is made of wheat and flour and some rice.. My doctor said to me that he suggests Rice Water to his patients that have severe runs. Note rice in both...... Fresh fruit and vege are the best till 8 months then you can be more adventureous..
36 hours is nothing like one of your answers babys digest breast milk so effiently that there may be know poo's. They use it all up..
good luck but im sure everything will be ok

Hi. My 5 months daughter, Emily, since about two month age, her poops more than two weeks interval. I still don't know how long her normal interval, since my wife rather worry, so she gave Emily medicine through her anus every two weeks (I wonder, it is good or not). I try to search some research paper about it, but it's difficult to find, I found none. But I feel lucky when I found parents discussion about it. They said that babies have great variations interval long in poop. My daughter is breastfeed. Her stool is normal and she is in a good health. She has happy and gained weight nicely. She is 7.4 kg in five months old. Actually I want to know how long her poop interval. But I believed that it is normal. I more worried about medicine she takes, for poop. I live in Indonesia, I write this data so people who want to study can compare between Asian baby and White baby. Hope someday it will be usefull for other parents, who cares about their children.

i was told that some bf babies can go a week without pooping cuz they are using everything in the milk. my son now goes maybe every 2-3 days before he poops but watch out when they go they GO!! just keep an eye on him, if he act uncomfortable and pulling his legs to his belly try to rub his belly or put him in a warm bath, my docs told me that might help him to relax and poop,if not call your docs and see what they have to say again. if he is still eating good and still wet diapers then he is good. just watch out when he does its gonna be messy :) good luck

ha! ignore the first two posters. its normal for a breastfed baby to go up to a week without a bowel movement. my son went several times a day and at 6-8 weeks it slowed to every 3 days. breastmik is so pure that almost all of it is absorbed by the body making hardly any waist- he;; go eventually and you should worry unless its hard

I breastfed too and don't remember my daughter going more than 48 hours without a BM. After 72 hours is when I would tell tell the doctor that you are worried something is wrong.

If he is uncomfortable then I would try to stimulate his anus with a thermometer. Just use it like you are taking his temp.
If he isn't uncomfy then just let him go for now. I bet he will go before you know it and this will be a thing of the past.
