I think I changed the battery by accident while it was on or something. Now it won't start and it makes a grinding noies. There are also three lights that light up and have pictures of tiny locks underneath them. I really need to get work done so I need to fix it. HELP!!

If it is the hard drive how much does that cost to fix?

take the battery out and hold down the start button for about 20 seconds to clear the static electric.

The grinding noise is definitely a hardware issue that should be checked out by someone. Don't try to turn it on if it keps making that noise as you could be damaging it further. Take it to your local computer repair shop (I hope you have one.) I STRONGLY recommend NOT going to the Geek Squad as they can't fix 90% of hardware problems anyway, and will simply charge you a lot and then tell you to buy a new computer. Hopefully you can get it fixed or at least they can save your data and find you a reasonably priced replacement.

sorry cant help and i dont think youll get it fixed in a hurry. there right it sounds like youve fried your hard drive. you might have accidentilly sent a surge thats damaged the drive. if it a laptop i suggest taking it into the shop and hope it on garuntee but play dumb they wont fix it if you broke it. if it a pc thats easy even you could do it but take it to the pros.
best of look getting the work done

smgray might be right..... or maybe u left a cd inside
well if thats the case u need to buy another hard drive , but u can still get the files stored inside u just have to pay more
if u left a cd inside, see if u hav a small circular hole/hub near the disk tray... poke it put a little force to remove tha cd
if ur unsure... do not try this.... bring it to an expert

Grinding noises sounds like the hard drive. There is no easy fix for that, replace the drive and reinstall everything.
