Do you believe that the gun bans in cities like Chicago and DC work? If so, shouldn't you feel safe walking through the city at night knowing you can't get shot cause guns are illegal? Or, will criminals always have guns and all the gun ban does is prevent the law abiding citizen from having them?

For the record, I am a responsible gun owner who has taken safety courses.

Why won't anyone pose an argument for gun bans?

If I use both hands, it works pretty good, so that type of gun control does really help when you are trying to hit the target.
Having said that, gun control in the context that you asked, is only a means for criminals to take advantage of people who can't defend themselves.
Bottom line, it doesn't work.

It is the personal belief of mine that gun control does not and will not every work. Now, although the gun ban info you have is quite intriguing it does not mean it is true. I am spending alot of my time to verify all that you said to further my argument that gun control does not work. What I can say that a victim that fires back LIVES LONGER. That is the truth because that person ahas something to defend themeselves with. If the people in all the countries listed were to have had guns and the government still tried to kill them they would ahve been met with armed resistance and a there would eb a much smaller body count. I dont want to venture far from topic but when the colonists fought for the freedom of the colonies to give us America there was the Minutemen (Militia) and the Military. The militia was almost entirely armed with Kentucky Long Rifles while the military was armed with smooth bore muskets. The long rifle was rifled which made the bullet go straiter and it went farther. When our forefathers wrote the Bill of Rights it was their intent to make sure that that always stayed the same that the US citizens had equal footing with that of a government controled miltiary incase the US government became corrupt the citizens could fight back.

If you outlaw gun ownership, only the criminals will own guns because the criminals have already proven that they do not care about obeying the laws anyway! Washington, DC's, gun ban law is going to be reviewed by the US Supreme Court, so hopefully the justices will strike it down by a nine to zero vote. The way I interpret the Second Amendment is that the "militia" consists of every adult in the USA who is a citizen of this country and I hope the justices will see it this way also.

I have a CCW , I also studied Computer Scienct at Virginia Tech and carried a Loaded Smith & Wesson .45 ACP with me to school everyday in the 1980s. I guarantee i wasn't the only one! And the incident that occurred at the campus would have ended much sooner than it did as i believe it is my responsability to protect my fellow students and americans. The school should not promote the fact that it is a gun free zone. Telling the criminal that his potential victims would be unarmed. Oh and by the way, if someone was carrying and would have shot the criminal he or she would have still gotten a tresspasing charge.

Sure it works; ask all of the experts Hitler, Mugabe and Lenin.
If you do not believe that go to one of the safe places with strict gun control like DC or Newark NJ. Contrast that with the bloodbath you will witness in a place like Amarillo Texas.
If you are still not a believer go to Europe; you will see that the violent crime rate is much higher then that of the gun ridden USA.
I know this goes in contrast to the propaganda that you have been fed your entire life but it is a fact.

Not by taking away guns. But registering them and taking safety courses are good.
[edit] An argument for gun control? Well, pet dogs are good deterrents, and guns aren't the only weapons. Knifes can also be effective, and in the event of a break-in, statistics indicate that guns aren't overly-effective compared to just about using anything sharp and pointy. And adrenaline can make aiming a bit harder.
That being said, I still think gun control should only be back-ground checks, registration, and safety courses.

Gun control works about as well as drug control does.
If you criminalize something, the only people who will possess the item will be criminals.

You must be young, and think life is safe. No, gun control does not work. Black Market is where crooks, and gangs will get their guns. So, don't ever feel totally safe. With that type of attitude your life could be in harms way. There is a 2nd Amendment in the Constitution that gives us the right to have arms. No one will take my guns from me. I will fight for my right.

You may not be safer with a gun, you might not get robbed, BUT we need the government to be afraid of it's citizens. We want our rulers to think carefully of what they try to take from us, they can only take from us what we give them. You can call the police (government) against the criminal going you harm, but who do you call against the police (government)?? You can't trust the government to do it all for us, but we can trust each other. The 2nd amendment was created to protect the people from the government having too much power; not just the main government, but your local one too.

The problem is not about removing guns all around or making them illegal it is about controlling their acquisition and resales or discarding. Simple fact to solve the problem would be to
1 assign a gun to an owner just like you have a title for your car
2 when you sell your gun you transfer the title
3 if you get it stolen or it "disappears" you declare it
4 if #2 is not properly done if your gun ends up in the street and kills someone you get involuntary for negligence in transferring the title.
finally enough of these maniacs who buy 100's of guns with no back ground checks. and please no more automatics sold in stores. limit to regular hand guns and rifles.
