My high school English II teacher told us today about Poetry Out Loud, a National Recitation Project that we would be participating in. Basically we have to memorize and recite a poem and if we win the school-wide competition we will move on to higher competitions. So I was wondering if there are any other high schoolers out there that are participating in this contest. And if so, what do you think of it?

The english teachers in my school are doing this as well. Have they played the official Poetry Out Loud CD that gives "4 sensible reasons as to why poetry is usefull"? :D It also plays some recesitations of poems. I think there is noting wrong with it. It is a great oppertunity for people who are interested in it. I myself enjoy poetry, on a simple level, but public speaking is not my thing. And I'm not into reciting other people's work and getting rewarded for it, I'd rather, if forced to recite something, be able to read my own work.
