For my friends this year, I'm giving some of them a 5X7 picture of Christ in the red robe, with the scripture talking about the light of the world from Matthew :) You could try that, or a book mark similar.
Also, if you have a picture of you two, you could put a collage together with scriptures and other thoughts about friends...
Good Luck, and Merry Christmas!

Hope you both have a good time together. I am not a Mormon, but I have read the Book of Mormon. Quite interesting...
I can not top the suggestions offered in other answers, so I will just say, "Happy Christmas!"

Make him something heart felt and relating to your friendship. Friends always treasure those sorts of things. A wallet, or some kind of knit garment or blanket would be good.

Does any company make a chocolate or candy airplane? Or maybe you can get a cake with planes on it.
