Yes, definitely. Everyone who can should know how, in case of emergency if nothing else. Why does he/she not want to? Find somewhere to practice with no other cars around, like a big empty parking lot. Let them set the pace and not move to roads and traffic until you and they are both comfortable.

It depends on the child. Of course it's important to know how to drive, but it doesn't mean they have to as soon as they turn 16! I am 18 years old, and still don't have my license, even though I do know how to drive. My cousin died in a car accident when he was 16, and I am still afraid everytime I get into a car. But, I know other people who were eager to get their license as soon as they turned 16. If they don't feel comfortable driving, give them some time. Try professional driving lessons. Start out with one, and make it clear that they can take their time. Of course, an 18 year old should have a license, but I know for a fact that someone who is nervous while driving can be a danger to themselves, and others on the road.

yes, everyone should know how to drive...say if you are ona bus and something happens to the driver, what would you do if no one knew how to drive the bus? Depends on the age of the child before forcing it. Not everyone wants their license at 16, my sister waited until she was almost 20, she liked being driving around. I couldn't wait to get mine.
How old are they? Do they need it to get to work/school or do errands for you? Depending on why you need them to have it may be playing a part in why they don't want to get it just yet...Are you going to be paying for the insurance and maintenace and car payments (that is if you get them one) or are they going to have to do that?

Of course it's important. Most 15/16 year olds want to learn to drive, but in the case that they don't- they need to because what if there is an emergency and they need to get help or something.

Of course, it's very important. A child waits all their life to get ther driver's license. They need to learn how to drive in advance. I think you should let you child learn how to drive..

Its fine if they want to but driving is not necessary you can take public transportation. Of course being able to drive makes things easier. But I wouldn’t advice forcing someone into it. If you have an emergency and you don’t drive you call 911 or a neighbor.

I don't think teenagers should be forced to drive..
If they want that sense of independence though, they deserve it. Becoming independent through something like driving IS an important part of growing up though. He/She just may not be ready yet.

of course! they need to practice independence. my sister's friend's brother, didn't learn to drive until he was 18, and well, he got made of sooo much, and you could tell he was nervous.his parents never enforced it either. he wasn't independent alot. they need to have as much experience as possible, for when they go off to college driving on the interstate some day. you wouldn't want an inexperience driver on the interstate would you? they also need to practice navigating. you aren't going to always be there point where to go and turn. they need to learn for themselves. also when they get their license they might want to save up for a car themselves, pay the insurance, and gas, this is a step toward adult hood. this gives them independence and shows how mature they are.

I think its very important because it will have another step towards independence. And then after drving theyn will the responsibilty for a job to pay for the car. Basically they'll be completly indepentent except for them living in your house
