Two consecutive integers equaling 217 would be 108+109. The only way to add two numbers and get an odd-numbered result is if one is odd. Two odds make even.

odd integers are 2 apart so, if x = 1st odd integer then x + 2 = 2nd odd integer

add these = 217
x + (x+2) = 217
2x + 2 = 217
2x = 215
x = 107.5 which is not an integer, so you must have the problem mistyped. (Fact: any two odd numbers will always add to be an even)

n is the first integer n+2 will be the consectutive odd integer because the next odd integer will be 2 away. so you add them to get 2n+2=217 so n = 107.5 but n has to be an integer so there is no solution

ignoring odd...

a + b = 217
and b = a + 1 so...

a + a + 1 = 217

or 2a = 216 so a = 108 and b = 109

all the best
