Hugh "Losing Pitcher" Mulcahy

Bob "Death To Flying Things" Ferguson (in tribute to his fielding prowess)

Doug "Eyechart" Gwosdz (this is pretty much the ONLY player I always have to look up to be sure I spell it right)

-----
Greg: good one, Oil Can Boyd. Cannot believe I forgot about the Can!

I prefer the old style nicknames like Shoeless Joe, but Moose Mussina is alright...Nobody said---

Mr. October - how could you not say the best nickname is based on your performance in the playoffs. Again I am not a Yankee fan or a Reggie fan, but the nickname is probably one of the all time greats--behind The Sultan of Swat and the Splendid Splinter!

We had the Killer B's here in Houston. Biggio, Bagwell, Bell then the likes of Berkman, Beltran(Boo...)...and so on and so on!

Don Stanhouse - a reliever called "Full Pack" by manager Earl Weaver because he'd make Earl so nervous he'd smoke an entire pack when Stanhouse was on the mound. Also called "Stan the Man Unusual" by teammate Mike Flanagan.

Mathewson was six feet tall - big for that time - and that's how he got the nickname "Big Six"

Casey Stengel - "Perfessor" because of the way he butchered the English language

Some old timers:

Sal "The Barber" Maglie was a pitcher in the '40s--any hitter who got too close to the plate got a shave, with a baseball.

William Ellsworth "Dummy" Hoy--honest to god, he was a deaf guy who played at the turn of the 20th Century. Good ballplayer, too.

Smokey Joe Wood--his fastball smoked.

Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown--a pitcher who had parts of two fingers (including the index finger!) chopped off or mangled while he worked with farm machinery. Something worked--he's in the Hall of Fame.

Christy "Big Six" Mathewson--I've never heard where that nickname came from.

Walter "Big Train" Johnson--another mystery nickname (to me, anyway).

I like these: Arthie Latham—The Freshest Man Alive.
Moose Solomon—The Rabbi of Swat
Pepper Martin—The Wild Horse of the Osage

Saitchel Paige called Buck O'Neill "Nancy" for years and years. As O"Neill tells it, Paige had a girlfriend of that name visiting him at his hotel. Then Mrs. Paige shows up as Saitchel is calling out for "Nancy." O'Neill appears at that moment, and Saitchel explains that "Nancy" is his nickname for Buck.

P.S. I have heard that some people called Rose Charlie Hustle as a derogatory name--anyone know if this is true?

How about the Splendid Splinter, Ted Williams? Or Lenny "Nails" Dykstra? "The Big Train" Walter Johnson?

Al Hrabosky AKA The Mad Hungarian. He was a maniac. Only partialy Hungarian but sure was known for anger as he would stomp out to the mound to pump himself up. It only fueled the nickname when he had one of the best E.R.A.'s as a reliever in '75 and wasn't selected to the All-Star team.

Why have a nn? only confirm to be Elizabeth, a acceptance i like. actual i like Lizzie plenty or Liz. Elle or Ellie is particularly female, too. Liza is likewise fairly as is Elise, in spite of the shown fact that, for me,my famous is to be Elizabeth, a proper call.
