This is a difficult question because Pb is not particularly unique. There are other elements which are more dense, have a lower melting point, are better are stopping radiation, are more poisonous, are more corrosion resistance, are more malleable, ...
One thing that is unique about Pb is it's usefulness as a solder when alloyed with Sn. For many many years, almost all the solder used for electrical connections was based on Pb-Sn solder alloys. Since Pb a poison, people do not want to have Pb ending up in land fills (old TVs, computers, phones, radios, water pipes, etc). Over the past 15 years or so, people have been working to find good solder alloys that do not include Pb (and do not include things that are worse than Pb). They have found some but these alloys are often more difficult to work with and require higher temperatures.

I hope this helps

Lead is better for certain purposes than other elements in several uses. It is the most commonly used element for the lead-acid storage batteries used in automobiles. It is one of the best shields against radiation. It serves a a clarifying agent in making crystal glass. And surprisingly, it is commonly used to dampen vibration in buildings.

Lead is used as a protective shield against x-ray and gamma radiation.

Lead is also good at reducing the transmission of sound through dampening.
