The first is impossible. Sorry.

The second has "any real number" as a solution.

I'm not going on. This is either weird or mistyped.

1. 3x - 2x - 6 = x -> Distributive Property
x - 6 = x -> Combine 3x and -2x
-6 = 0 -> Subtract x on both sides
NO SOLUTION - When the variable cancels out and you have two different numbers (a FALSE statement), there is NO SOLUTION.

2. 7 + 2x + 2 = 2x + 9 -> Distributive Property
2x + 9 = 2x + 9 -> Combine 7 and 2
ALL REAL NUMBERS - When you have the same number/expression on both sides (a TRUE statement), then all real numbers will make the equation true. Any number you substitute for "x" will "work."

3. 5 - (1/2)b + 3 = 4 -> Distributive Property
8 - (1/2)b = 4 -> Add 5 and 3
-(1/2)b = -4 -> Subtract 8 on both sides
b = 8 -> Multiply for -(1/2) on both sides

4. 2x - 6 + 5 = 3x -3 -> Distributive Property
2x -1 = 3x - 3 -> Add -6 and 5
-1 = x -3 -> Subtract 2x on both sides
2 = x -> Add 3 to both sides

Hope this helps!!

3x - 2 (x + 3) = x

You first have to distribute everything in the problem. Do this by multiplying the -2 by everything in the parenthesis.

3x - 2x - 6 = x

Now simplify by subtracting the x's.

x - 6 = x

You still need to get both x's on one side of the equal sign. To do this, you must do the opposite of the action taking place. In this case subtract x from the right side; thus, moving it over to the left.

x - 6 - x = 0

Now put the x's together and add the 6 to the right side of the equal sign.

Since the x's cancel each other out (one is negative and the other is positive) your final answer is:

0 = -6 or NO SOLUTION

On all of these, you'll have to distribute quantities that are multiplied by terms in parenthesis. Then you'll have to group the factors of x on one side and everything else on the other. h

Here's the last one as an example:

2 ( X - 3 ) + 5 = 3 ( X - 1 )

Distribute the 2 on the left and the 3 on the right...

2X - 6 + 5 = 3X - 3

Move the terms containing X to the right and everything else to the left...

-6 + 5 + 3 = 3X - 2X

and simplify...

2 = X

x-6=x
0x=-6

Undefined

2. 7+2x+2=2x+9
2x+9=2x+9
x=0

3. 5-1/2b+3=4
2-1/2b=4
-1/2b=2
b=-4

4. x+2=3x-3
2x=5
x=5/2
