Hah! I'm quite a bit older than you, so you're no "senior citizen"...
...yet.
;-)
Personally, I don't let my age deter me from trying to help people with questions. Actually, I find my years of anime and manga experience to be of use here (and on other forums such as AnimeOnDVD.com, AnimeSuki.com, etc...). Plus I'm a professional animator with many years of production experience which gives me the ability to tap the knowledge of currently working animators and manga artists.
As far as I can tell, the average age here is probably between 12 -18 years old (maybe younger). I think most of the knowledgeable (old school) anime fans don't really bother to hang our here due to the fact that most of the questions are about downloading episodes of Naruto ... which is a rather mediocre show, but it appeals to a much younger and less experienced anime crowd.
I enjoy answering questions here with the hopes that people will broaden their anime and manga horizons ... break out of what they're fed on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim. There's a VAST amount of good animation (anime and non-anime) available to watch these days. Plus, when I'm working on a project and my computers are grinding out frames, I have nothing better to do than hang out on the 'Net.
If you would like to discuss anime with an older group of very experienced fans (ages 20 and up), try the forums at AnimeOnDVD.com...

Good bunch of people with a vast amount of knowledge. Read the forum rules though...they don't like people asking for illegal downloads.
Now everyone show go watch the show "Potemayo". It's the cutest, funniest, fluffiest show in the universe.
Cheers. =^.^=

I am 20. I'd say you are pretty old amongst the anime fans, although there are a few here in the comic and animation section (not neccessarily anime fans) who are quite a bit oder.
Most of the anime fans here are going to be around 12 to early 20s.
As far as anime you want to recommend, I don't think that would be to big of a problem. A lot of people have seen stuff like Elfen Lied or Berserk before they were 18, and that's right in the middle of the age group here.
I am curious to hear what you would recommend that may not be appropriate for younger viewers. Would you care to share a few titles?

Im 23 and from a small town in eastern Nebraska. Do you know how much crap I got from people in my highschool class of 32 people that I watched "cartoons" and read "comic books"? It took an older classmate to tell me that I really shouldnt care what they think as long as I am enjoying myself and I give you that advice. I plan to keep watching anime and reading manga for the rest of my life.
As for the fearing that you are giving out mature anime and manga choices for teens and kids, you really shouldnt worry about it. Some titles are going to be more mature than others but its not your responsibility to police what they are going to read. Its their parents and their responsibility for what they are reading, whether its mature or not.

I'm 22... You're not a senior citizen here... =)
I've met several mothers and grandmothers here in Comics & Animation, they are also fans of anime/manga like us...
You can take a look at this question to see the average age of anime/manga fans here, though this is an old question, I hope it helps a bit: =)

I am 20! I don't think that you should worry too much if you think a show is inappropriate for a younger audience just say why you think so when you recommend it, and let them decide if it something they want to see or not.

I'm 15. You are never too old for anime.
Btw, kids are going to learn about inappropriate things. Just get it over with. Once they understand it, the term inappropriate disappears.
