A DBA is a "doing business as" certificate. You'll need to get one if you are the only owner and you have a business name not including your last name. My brother just started a business and he decided to go through an on-line company to get his DBA. He said it was easier that way.

DBA means "Doing Business As". If you are going to start a business under a different name you will need to register a DBA. Here's a good website to go to if you need help.

"DBA" = Doing Business As

If you have a company called Perfect Hair and sell hair products, you get a business license from the state under that name, with you as the owner/proprietor. Any business account you open at the bank will have the business name first, and your name second. Or your name first and the business name second (depends on how you set it up).
