Yahoo doesn't detail how the silly badge is awarded (or lost), but it's pretty obvious "quality" doesn't factor into it.

I saw another user with a top contributor badge who had only been on here since the beginning of November. I think it has something to do with the number or questions you answer, the quality of your answers, etc. So if the user you're talking about has a lot of answers and a fair amount of best answers in the baseball section, that's probably why.

Edit: I have no clue how the Top Contributor badges are earned. I also agree that they should be given to people based on the QUALITY of their answers instead of the quantity. I'm sure they factor both in there, though.

It seems to me that you have to answer a lot of questions, and get mroe points, you lose points when ask questions, and I bet another thing that happens you are way to getting this type of award, if you get a lot of your answers selected as the best answer, and get you 10 answers points, so as long as you don't lose point,s and make more points, and I don't knwo how far you have to go, you be on the way to get a top contibuter. Now if you look at me, I am not one of these people, btu when I click on thier names, they ae higher up, like people around or even in level 7, and you have to get to so many points before, you can enter the next lever, then where you are now.

It's not surprising, because the formula used to determine "top contributor" is pretty questionable.

There was a period where I answered a lot of fantasy sports questions over about a week. At the end of that week, my baseball badge had been replaced by fantasy sports. So, if Qbass is answering a lot of questions - and he does seem to be on here very regularly - then I can see him getting that status.

I am going to second the Chipmaker comments. The top contributor badge is meaningless, I never asked for it and I have no knowledge how or why it is awarded. They can have mine back right now and it would make no difference to me. As far as I am concerned the only important factor is the quality of the responses and/or questions and there are a few people on this site that make it worth while for me to sign in each day and see what they have to say. I will leave my comments at this for now and hold other comments I might have for a later time.

Here is the simple formula for top contributor - it is the number of best answers you get. That is it. It has nothing to do with quality and questions asked. Only how many best answers you get. I at one point was one, but then that account got deleted due to some yahoo errors associated with 360. But that is it.

Many months ago, I was a TC also [for only 4-5 days]. I have no idea how it happened or what planets were in alignment for me to get the banner, but it happened and I was only on here for a couple of weeks.

You have to ask a lot of good questions and get lots and lots of best answers to qualify. I see it as no big deal. I have both and am happy just where I am, a nobody but loving the baseball section to ask and respond.

He's probably a Red Sox fan, and hence he knows what he is talking about.
