Yes of course but you have to be very careful to prove that you did not use excessive force. Did you have a chance to get away or call 911? Was the guy cornered with only a knife and you shot him anyway? As an aside..... don't have a huge amount of weapons around as that could cast doubt upon you.

There have been cases where a person was cleared criminally but the family sued in civil court and won.

But yes I would if the situation warrented it....... sure. But I would have to very sure that it did so I am not risking my life for a car or a TV. But if it came down to it I would rather accept the legal consequences and know that my family was safe.

Killing is not necessary when depending against a carjacker, robber or burglar. However, if circumstances requires for the killing, it could be cited in case a charge of homicide will be filed against the one depending himself and his property.

If possible I wouldn't get robbed at all. If possibly I'd sneak out and call the cops. If necessary I'd kill someone threatening me.

But I wouldn't be happy about it.

(And I wouldn't recommend it. I have a friend who is a public defender currently defending a guy who shot gang members who cam to his house after saying they would kill him, and who tried to attack him. He's facing the death penalty.)

I would shoot to stop the threat. The threat is stopped when I have shot at center mass enough times that he has fallen and dropped his weapon.

If that means he's dead, so be it. My answer is "I shot to stop the threat."

Not unless they attacked me first, because then I would be sent to jail for murder.
