I apologize in advance if this sounds silly. I want to host a website with potential high volume and was told that I may need additional servers in the long run.. does that mean I have to have a cpu-looking box running in my home or can i host through godaddy? suppose I needed say, 7 servers for my page.. can that page be virtually hosted through a service like godaddy? how does it work. please explain. thank you!!!

I'm sure you can lease server space and not have to have servers on-site, but for that much, I wouldn't expect it to come cheap.

You won't need 7 servers. Just go with a good host and you'll be fine. Your home connection wouldn't be enough for a heavy usage media site anyway.

lease a server from a good provider. If you are going to have high traffic, do not use a virtual server.

My website is a low traffic site, I use a virtual server, I like it. I average about 1GB of traffic per month.

Check with GoDaddy.

Tell them you might possibly have a high hit rate and large data transfer.

They will work with you on a plan that suits you for a start-up and then continue working with you if your site goes ballistic.
