Your college credits are always good. What changes, over time, are the requirements for your major. I was once told that I could graduate according to the requirements in the course catalog of the year I began college, no matter how many years it took me to finish those requirements, as long as I didn't miss more than two semesters in a row.
So, if you miss three consecutive semesters, the requirements for your major may change causing some classes you took to no longer qualify and adding others to your required list.
I would check with your college to be absolutely certain.
Also, keep in mind that if you change colleges, some of your credits may not transfer.

The college will not drop your credits. If you attend another school the new school will and must be able to get your college transcripts.
With computers and all it will simply be as easy as a stroke of the key to retrieve.
I had a friend who dropped out for more than 3 years then returned and finished.

No, however, there is a 10 year limit. After 10 years its up to the school whether or not they want to accept your credits. Now, as for being out of school for a year, if you were at a state school or university, you're probably going to have to reapply to go back.

No, I think it's more like 5 years. My mom actually had credits from 10 years ago and her college is counting them.

Every school varies, but sometimes it's not just the courses but the course content (science won't last long, literature will). You should be fine--start back with even one semester and you will be able to pick up where you left off.

Depends upon the school. Some are 20. I doubt it's as little as 3, though.
But go back and FINISH! It won't take that long and you'll be SO GLAD you did!
