they put you in jail for i think 5-20 years for falsifying information, or $30 if your checks bounce. If you're in contempt of court, and you can't pay, then it's 5 years in the slammer, and 200 hours community time, and you still have to pay it back.

People go to jail all the time for writing hot checks! Better start getting them paid before you have to go to court!

You're in $2000 worth of trouble with the recipients whom you defrauded, not to mention the bank. You'll have to pay the bank fees, the merchant's fees, make good on the checks, and will most likely be charged with the crime of writing bad checks. Learn to handle your depression in a less destructive manner next time.

Your attorney might just be able to get you off the hook, by pleading mental illness. if this case, you might have to do time in a mental hospital.
You
can count on the prosecution doing everything to tear holes in the claim you are depressed.
You might get out of jail time by pleading guilty and vowing to make restitution. Anyway, congratulations! You are now a felon.

You may not go to jail if you can explain to a judge your mental problem and let him know you saught counseling for it. I hope you did, and that you are willing to make an arrangement with the ones looking for their money. Also, you may not go to jail if you show you are willing to pay so much money a month until paid up . Just negotiate with those you didn't pay.

well first of all it's called fraud and it can be up to 25,000 fine or jail time.
I suggest you contact your bank asap and cancel all of those cheques!
EDIT: I think that if this were to go to court it would show good on your part to have cancelled the cheques. It would give indication that you realized that you had done something wrong. While it might not completely change the situation, I believe the judge would be far more sympathetic if you were to accept full responsibility for what you've done.

The state attorney will force you to pay back the money by a certain date...if you don't/can't, you'll go to jail. How long depends on your state and judge.

no jail time as long as you agree to pay the money owed, it would be better if you would call the parties involved and work something out with them, either to return the merchandise if possible or work out a payment plan
none of your creditors want you to get busted, they want you happily working and earning $$$ to pay what you owe
