To be more specific - 12 oz beverage can.

I HAVE performed this manuever with a soda can, but not a beer can.
Wait, wait... lemme explain...
I only drink Guinness, which come in tall cans, so with those you're able to more quickly determine where, exactly, the weight is located within the can. So, with the longer can, you have like half a second longer to use your cat-like reflexes to duck out of the way or chuck it over your shoulder or put up a block move or whatever. Ta!

Never happened to me but I remember at a party years ago, my buddy who was outside notions for me to throw him a beer, guess in my alcohol (among other things) induced haze I didn't see the closed patio door, my host was none too impressed to say the least.

I am deeply disturbed by the end of holy smoked's answer. Yes, indeed.
I have done the same thing as you, today in fact, with my own can of soda. Busted my lip a little bit in the process. Everyone else got a great laugh at my expense. :-) In my world, you would also walk into walls. It is something I am known for among my friends and family. ;-)

No, but I picked up a beer can I was using as an ashtray thinking it was the one I was drinking from.

but if you thought it was fuller, why smash your face? i tend to do that only with ones I think are empty
many years ago, a roommate of mine picked up a can of soda and took a sip... but it was the spit can of another roommate.
