A tennis ball cannon.

Made from several of the old style gatoraide cans duct taped together, a tennis ball can (with bottom cut out), lighter fluid and a lighter.

That baby would through the tennis ball about 50 yards and looked cool at night with the flames out the end. I would about 12 when I did it.

Good memories and cool question!

I think homemade toys can be just as good or better than store-bought toys. Some homemade gifts that I really enjoyed when I was a child:
-Barbie furniture made out of salt boxes, checkbook boxes, etc.
-Homemade stuffed animals (a friend's mom made me a stuffed rabbit and then together they made a new dress for the rabbit a few years later).
-Homemade doll clothes.
-Homemade books
