Although called the "Original Six," that's really a bit misleading. Only Montreal and Toronto were around for the inaugural 1917-18 season, along with Ottawa and a second Montreal team (the Wanderers).

The Original Six didn't have the league to themselves until the 1942-42 season, and the league would remain that way until the 1967 expansion.
