I really like these suggestions. I too made most of my daughters food. I gave her what we were eating. I just cut it or mushed it up. I pumped milk for a full year. I move her bed right into our room when she is sick. I never used baby powder. It is not good for their lungs. I love her Pediatrician and would follow her about anywhere. That is very important. My best secret though is more of a lesson. I am my child's voice. She cannot speak for herself so it is up to me to advocate for her!!!

OKay y daughter is 3 now, but there is a list of things that I could not live without. Purell hand sanitizing wipes....good for any occasion. Playtex Baby Magic calming milk lotion. That stuff is wonderful. As far as wipes go I always used Huggies with Shea Butter and sometimes the lavender ones. Let me think.......I've always used the Baby Magic botanicals or Suave smoothers. When she was sick Johnson's I believe makes a baby vapor bath wash and bubble bath. That works great too. I'd stock up on some baby rub vapo rub also. That's all that I can think of right now. As far as foods. I made alot of my own baby foods, but at times baught the Gerber jars. Hope I've helped a little. Congrats on the little guy!

My tip is to not worry about what everyone else is doing and discover what works best for you. I loved Johnson and Johnson's Baby Shampoo and Baby Bath Soap which you can also use to wash their hair. I stuck with mostly Gerber foods and occasionally mashed up my own veggies and bananas with a spoon or with the cool little baby food masher someone got me. I discovered that the wipe warmer was a waste since it dried out my wipes and by the time you wiped your baby the wipe had already turned cool. I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd (a boy), and I plan on taking it one day at a time. I will listen to other mom's advice but not worry too much about it. Good luck!

Tips:
Amen to the self-weaning.

Lansinoh brand wipes. That's ALL we use, no powders or lotions, and NO diaper rash.

Avocado for one of baby's first foods. You never see it marketed because it's not a vegetable that keeps well, so Gerber can't bottle it. A VERY healthy food for someone who needs fats (baby, not as good for someone dieting).

Breastmilk can be used to help lots of little things: cuts, bug bites. I was really surprised at how it will kill the itch and redness on a mosquito bite.

I have an almost 4 month old, so I have a lot to learn, also. But, try using drugstore brand diapers instead of the name brand ones. Same for wipes as well. And the Lavender Bedtime Johnson & Johnson bath stuff is wonderful.

-99% of the time, your instinct will be right.
-Hylands Teething Tablets are GREAT when your baby is teething.
-Don't worry about "spoiling" him. You can never spoil a baby by loving him too much.
-Take advantage of infancy and toddlerhood and use things around the house to entertain him. He'll be happier with mixing bowls and cardboard boxes than expensive toys. That will all change when he starts seeing toys advertised :(

I have a tip for you: keep nursing until he weans himself. He'll be less sick, he'll have a higher IQ, and you'll never have to worry about his nutritional intake. Nursing a toddler is amazing!

We made our own food too. My babies loved sweet potatoes that I roasted myself.
