My kids flew back and forth between Los Angeles and San Francisco several times, by themselves before they were 12 years old. HOWEVER, the airlines watched over them in the air, and only handed them over to their mother or father with valid ID. Young people are quite capable of travel under those types of circumstances. On the other hand, travel by other means, where there is the possibility of unsupervised detours -IE: by bus or train- is dangerous, and I would not recommend it.
If we are talking about a person who is say 17, and only technically a minor, then I would not be so worried. I would only restrict kids under 15.

Depends on the age of the minor. 17 year olds? Sure. 5 year olds? Heck no.

I don't think anyone should travel alone(adults included) unless you can't find someone to travel with...there are just too many evil things going on.

What do you consider a minor?
