like do they ever get to travel for free?

They can do something as simple as book flights or make hotel reservations for you or they can do something that really requires skill and time -- like arrange an entire travel package for you, using their own expertise in certain regions or types of travel to create a package unique to your interests. Most hotels and resorts do give travel agent discounts (although airlines don't) and sometimes offer very-discounted travel packages to travel agents in order to drum up good-will and thus business. They can also help you change your travel plans, get you travel insurance, etc. YOu really should just talk with one for awhile to get a full sense of how they spend their time each day.

Good ones can do alot more than book a flight or hotel room. They can give you useful advise about when not to plan a trip in the Caribbean, how to save money by traveling off season. They can arrange pkge deals and advise you which companies deliver cheap pkgs vs first class. You should try to interview a travel agent in your area.

I had a meeting with the Sales Rep from Contiki today and I sold a vacation for a group of women traveling to Central Europe. I talked on the phone a whole lot and I do win trips and prizes and bonuses.

Find one in your area and schedule a time with them!!!!
They figure out your whole trip for you! Hotels, food, car rentals, etc. They can give you great deals on packages. They can take monthly payments until it's paid off so when the time comes it's paid for. You need to interview one!
