As with most, I loved my mother's cooking. There were, of course, some foods that my mom cooked that I just could not swallow, and it wasn't until I went into the army that I discovered the reason why; my mom learned to cook from her mom and grandmother. I don't know what kind of cooks they were but someone taught my mother that vegetables weren't cooked until they were mush. I could not eat asparagus until I met a Cajun chef in New Orleans named Albert Harper. I had no idea that vegetables actually had flavor, and that steak did not have to be burned clear through. I made a joke about my mom treating us like gods, because she gave us burnt offerings; my sense of humor was not appreciated.
I will not discourage all of you who love your Mother's home cooking; I have yet to taste the dessert from any pastry or dessert chef that could even come close to the wonderful delights that my mother would bake and whip up. Her rhubarb pie has no equal that I have yet tasted and for donuts and breads she was totally above excellent.

I loved some of the things that my mother cooks. She's one of those Southern women who thinks that her food has be grease related in order for it to be good. I'm talking about extra butter and sugar in everything. If I had stayed with her, I would weight a TON by now. I try to avoid eating her cooking whenever I can. She must want me on my deathbed lol.

Loved it....she was way ahead of her time back in the 70s.
Now not only do I LOVE to cook--all 3 of my adult sons are excellent and adventurous cooks!

I loved my mother's food.
So much comfort, love, and warmth came from her kitchen.
I lost her when I was 14, but the memory of her cooking, baking, sharing, loving, and working in her kitchen is such a precious memory to me.
Especially her fried chicken and her homemade biscuits! yum!
Thanks for letting me share such a special time in my life!
