strength to you
my theory about the "pile-on" aspect is that it's a leftover
from "pack-animal" days. Seeing a vulnerable person makes for an easy "win" ... it ain't nice, but not all people appear to have advanced to the level of "civil" behaviour.
stiff upper lip and put on the game-face and "let your white bird smile up at the ones who stand and frown" (nice song .. dunno if it'll help, but finding strength to keep on going when it's tough out there ... is sometimes the only option that will get you though)
hang in there kid!

I know. My dad is one of those people. Been struggling with an eating disorder with my daughter for a year and he thought he would "help" by calling and telling her how ugly she is now that she has lost all the weight. He also felt the need to declare that this has been going on for a year and it's time it stopped. (Like I have been doing nothing this whole year and somehow this declaration is going to change things???)
Then when I tried to explain there are self esteem issues involved with anorexia and telling them they are ugly isn't helpful, he wants me to send him an article about it! What? Do your own dang research! He also wanted me to have one of her doctors call him. HUH??? like the doctors and I don't have enough to work with, now we have to call him so he can talk to a professional?
Uggggg!

Draw your strength through the love and support of your friends ...... and if a person is "piling it on" you while you are going through a rough patch in your life, they are not really your friend ...... = )

I can handle people adding to your problems. They just don't know any better, or maybe don't understand the nature of your stress or problems and don't even know they're adding onto it.
It's when people compare to their problems and say how easy you have it in comparison. Yeah, maybe their problem is worse, in their eyes. But that doesn't make it any easier on me and my problems to know someone else is going through something completely different. That's what bothers me.
But you should know to, you also have a friend who cares. Thanks for what you said earlier. That was really sweet of you.

I have no idea what you mean but it wouldn't bother me to have to tell them to Back Off. You are waiting until you have had enough, I guess. Stand up for yourself (I'm right behind you).

I hear you....I may even be guilty of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time on occasions, myself. Just remember that many of us are right behind you.

It seems that the worst comes out in people when they find someone who`s vulnerable. GOD forgive them.
