Hopefully you can't. People get them because they are cute. Then they grow up and get stronger than the owner and get aggressive. Then they get to spend the rest of their lives in a sanctuary. Great life for them!!! They should be in the wild where they belong!!!!

haha u dont get a permit 4 1 to keep as a pet lozer!

They don't just give permits to kids who think chimps are cute. If you don't know that a chimp is not a monkey you don't know nearly enough about keeping a chimp.

First step is to go to a school like Moorpark and major in Exotic Animal Management and Training. Second step is to graduate that program and work at a zoo or animal sanctuary for hands on experience. Then, you buy a house with a ton of property and build a secure habitat for chimps. Then maybe you can apply to get a liscense to be a sanctuary for chimps, where almost all "pet" chimps end up.

Chimps are not monkeys, but apes. That said, I agree with other people: don't get a primate as a pet, as they are complex social animals, and it is likely that you will be promoting their kidnapping from the wild -- usually done by shooting the mom and stealing the baby. Chimps are the most complex of them all, and not only will it be no less cruel to keep her than to sequester a child out of her home, but it will be like raising a small but very strong and mobile child who requires full-time attention in a high-stimulus environment, and who doesn't understand human language. What you might do, however, is volunteer with or attach yourself to a primate center or in the primate house of a zoo someplace, or, if you are really serious, join a graduate program in primatology or physical anthropology. There are a number of anthropologists who are working closely with chimps, both here and among them in Africa, and I'd suggest checking out studying with them and making an interesting and fulfilling lifetime career of it -- which is what you'd have to do anyway, because chimps live 35 or 40 years. You could also be making an important contribution to understanding and saving our closest relatives, as they are an extremely threatened species.

Addendum: Oh sorry, I see that you are committed to a career. Why don't you go and talk with zoos and primate centers, such as the one near Portland, Oregon, about this topic, since probably few people have much experience with Chimps in their houses? There must be vets working with these zoos and centers as well, who would be good professional contacts for somebody with your interest. I'll add that everyone I know who is living with a chimp is doing it as a full-time job of studying chimp behavior, since that is the level of effort that it requires.

alright do not get a chimpanzee, it would be taking it out of its habitat and it is best for them to live in the wild. Though if u really want one go to a zoo and offer to care for a new birth and then later u will have to give it back in about like 4 or less months, though to do this u have to get special permits and things. Also monkeys can be very aggressive especially chimps when their young they will throw poo and maybe bite and tear up ur house but when their older they can kill because they have amazing strength. Then finally dont try to get a chimp period especially if ur that young, you would need to be older and know exactly wat ur doing, also if u just take a chimp out of the wild illegally it would be horrible for the chimp because it would be depriving it of freedom. Wildlife is best left in the wild

DONT GET ONE!!!! Wild animals are wild animals! No matter how much you bond with it while its a baby once it reaches sexual maturity around 5 -6 yrs they become VERY DANGEROUS and AGGRESSIVE. You will end up having to give it away anyhow! I hope there is no such thing a PERMIT for a chimp. The only people who should have them are trained professionals in ZOOS!

Don't get any breed of monkey - they are dangerous and truly not fun (or manageable) when they reach maturity!
