You might actually have it, and you might just have bad study habits. When I was going through school I had both, but the ADD wasn't diagnosed until much later.

The problem is that ADD isn't curable because it's really a bad thinking habit. The primary cause of ADD is that the blood flows out of the frontal lobe when we try to concentrate. This is a semiautonomic function that is the result of training, not of any physical defect. Years of training our minds to purposely do this can make it a very difficult thing to fix.

The only thing that ADD medications do is to increase the total amount of blood available, usually by increasing our metabolism or blood pressure. Sometimes they work by decreasing the blood flow to other parts of our brain so that more is available. Some of them work, some of them don't, some of them have really nasty side effects. Mostly, though, if you don't work to retrain your brain, you'll wind up with the same problem ON the drugs, and even worse problems if you try to go off of them.

Try this instead. Before you study, visualize the blood flowing to your brain. When you feel yourself drifting off, do it again. This might make your forehead hurt a little, if it does then it's probably working. This will help you mantain your focus.

What you describe sounds more like ADHD--Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder...If so, there IS medication that can help the hyperactivity which will help you then deal better with the ADD...If you're still in school, get tested and then, if they have it, get into a Sp. Ed. classroom--there are fewer students and the teachers are specially trained to help different disorders. If you're an adult, I'd recommend a good psychiatric social worker who can get the testing done; then an assessment with a psychiatrist who can Rx medication if indicated; and then help you deal with life more effectively. No doubt, this has caused you problems since early childhood. Good Luck

Or it could be your diet.. try less sugar and little/no caffeine as well as getting the sugars you do eat in a healthy way (such as fruits).. if that doesn't work try supplements such as ginko-biloba... and if there's still no help THEN I'd get tested for ADD... but even if they say you are... I'd try to get therapies that aren't medication based first...

Medicine can help.. but try to make it a last resort.. this is the healthiest option.
