There are some good sites that have how advertising affacts body image and stuff. some stats were that 80 percent of fourth grade girls have been on a fad diet.
we're exposed to 2000 ads a day
a 17 year old girl will have received over 250,000 commercial messages

There has been a lot of research on this over the years. I was a co-author on a major paper on the topic which still gets cited on advertising adult products (we used diet soda and lipstick) to kids. We found that even watching once or twice changed their values - kids who said they thought it was more important to be intelligent than beautiful, for example, changed their mind and thought that looks were more important after watching these ads.

Start with the Viagra and Rogaine commercials. My eight year old son was worried about having a hair loss problem because of those commercials. It was kind of humorous. He made that his first statement to a balding coworker of mine when I introduced him - when I took him into the office on a weekend for work. That is just the Rogaine. I cringe when I think of the Viagra imaginations among 6-12 year olds! ('Please contact your Dr. for erections lasting longer than 4 hours.') This is a pet peeve of mine, although I am not necessarily for censorship...I just think they should consider the child audience when they create them.
