I think it'd be helpful if they could economically produce food from genetically modified organisms that could thrive under harsh conditions. Maybe that would curb world hunger.

Genetically modified foods (quite a wide area topic) are not necessarily harmful to the environment like many people think. They are NOT harmful to humans .....otherwise why would they genetically modify them? Also "googling" things like this will get you much better "specific" results like you wanted than asking a bunch of idiots on the internet. Below are the two top links given by google when you search genetically modified food.

I think the only ones who benifit from this are the big corporations who made them. I heard of stories of small farmers here in Canada (who are using traditional farming methods which are much healthier) that are complaining about these big corporations.
healthy or not? no one is sure. maybe we'll all have to wait 20 to 30 years from now (if we survived) 'till an unbiased research confirmed that the cause of most cancers today are these foods.

My concern these days! Can't just eat food. I am beginning to suffer paranoia about the food available in the market.

Only time will tell, hunnybunz...
But ask any starving Sudanese refugee whether he wants a bite of that genetically modified vegetable hamburger or die tomorrow... what do you think he'll choose?
