I am in university doing law, and I was thinking of having cornrows like I had in high school. I am not gangster, or from the hood, but I do like cornrows - am I making myself stand out too much by having cornrows?

Question...

Why is it that when we talk about a professional appearance, for black males it has to exclude cornrows, braids, dreadlocks or things like that, but if you walk with me into schools such as these or law offices and court rooms, you can see white men with hair longer than a hippies VW Van( no pun intended) that it's ok for them. I know for a fact that schools such as Georgia State, Georgia Tech, and Emory all have white male professors/ teachers with this type of look. To them they are professional, but we have issues with our own appearance, because they have an issue with us as a people...btjm...

Not At All! They Have Just Beed Added To The Whole Negative lack Stereotype Thing, Like 'Baggy Pants' And Stuff Like That. You can Still be Viewed As Smart And Respectable As Long As You Think You Are. Dosent Matter What People Think. I think Cornrows Are Cool On Anybody!x

I don't know if they are too gangster or not but they are definitly out of style.
I have a couple of neighbors in Hungary (white boys) who wear cornrows. They also look very 1980's. Not a good look I think.

If you're going into law, I definately wouldn't reccomend it.

You have to blend in to be taken seriously in suit and tie jobs.

Get a buzz cut, and you'll be better off.

If you get cornrows, your not going to go very far in that career.

I dont think cornrows would be very proffesional for that type of atmosphere , you know preppy type of people . They will definatly talk about you behind your back and call you ghetto .

They aren't, they are a part of your culture but do not place you into the gangster or "hood" category; that is a stereotype. Having cornrows will make you seem strong because you are not afraid to express yourself. Go for it.

No not at all! I beleive it's part of the "black" culture and there's nothing wrong with it. It shouldn't be looked as a stereotype just because you are in law school. If you like em' get em'! ;)

i personally do no find them attractive. but they will make you out to look ganster and from the hood. i'd prefer a clean cut man. and since you're in law. thats more appropriate. (i work at a law school)
