So you host peace talks and that suddenly absolves you of your sins?
The people of Iraq are only free to die or leave. The elections were a sham. It is one of the most unstable countries on Earth, and the "elected" government have little to no power outside Baghdad. Even the most blinkered fool can see that Bush was ALWAYS going to invade Iraq, it was only a matter of what reasoning there was going to be that justified it.
Although hosting peace talks is certainly a step in the right direction, it absolutely does not mean the US is the saviour of the middle east.
And most Muslims do not want death to America. Do most Chritians want death to the Middle East? Because that's what's bandied about in Tehran and Damascus.

It's all about the money. To believe anything else is ignorant and naive. We have it and they want it. All wars are fought over some sort of econmic gain. Religion is just used to motivate the terrorist/soldier, because if they knew the real reason why they were fighting, it might be hard to get volunteers. So both us and them are brainwashed into believing that we are fighting for some just cause that actually doesn't exist. Everyting America does it does out of its own self-interest (like every other nation). Please don't think that we are more humanitarian than any other nation out there. This is simply not true. We have the most money, therefore the most freedom. You get the government that you deserve. In Iraq the majority of the population is not educated and don't have what to eat. They do not deserve democracy. In fact, most of the people don't even know what it is.

If talks are so important to solving the problems in the Middle East, why didn't we try this 5 YEARS ago? We might not be $9,000,000,000,000 US dollars in debt to Communist China, we would still enjoy ALL our freedoms and civil liberties and we would be able to look out over NYC from the observation deck of the WTC.
As far as "every soul" goes, how many Iraqi civillians have been "liberated" from their homes, their families and their lives by Bush's stupidity and shortsightedness? 80,000? 100,000? Talking about "saving their souls" while lighting them up with napalm seems pretty psychotic.
Didn't Bush say, in the run-up to the Iraqi invasion, that the time for talk with Hussein was over (even though no talks had ever occurred between Bush Lite and Hussein)? Is he now "flip-flopping" on that statement?

Another country which demonizes and fights against true Christians (such as Serbian freedom fighters) in order to appease Islamic fanatics? Yes, France, for example, both during the reign of Lewis the 14th (who wanted to have his daughter from outside his marriage to get married to Ismail the Bloodthirsty of Morocco) and today.

It does make us great. But it sure took long enough. Is it possible that this is the approach we should have tried? Is the fact that GW is doing somehow make it more palatable? Was it so distasteful when JC tried. Or is this a matter of the person not the policy.
I am all for diplomacy and not unwarrented agression.

Has there ever been another country like the USA?

Since the begining of time someone has been in charge (Romans), and of course not everyone will agree with our actions. It is not our duty to please everyone, it is our duty to do what we feel is in the best interest of the USA and the rest of the world.
