it's needed (THANKS EVOLUTION!!) to decompress and transfer information in the brain.. as well as reset process and give the body time to heal.
So, we sleep.. because it gives us a greater experience in life.. if you want to think of it in that way.

Who's to say that what we're experiencing isn't a dream that we could wake up from at any moment? Sleep is a release, a rejuvenating experience that leaves us refreshed, with a new perspective on the world. And, you know, we sleep because no amount of coffee will keep you awake forever

Because sleep is when your brain converts short term memory into long term memory.
Without sleep we would be like that chick on "50 first dates" and only be able to remember one day at a time.

For the same reason you charge a cell phone or put gas in a car- If you don't, neither will work anymore & will eventually die.

Because WE CANT live without SLEEP. Thats how every single stinkin on this earth is almost, except for rare exceptions. It boils to WE CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT SLEEPING OR WE WILL DIE because it needs recharging and the brain will die and no longer function if sleep is deprived.

In my opinion we sleep because so that we can have that full energy in the morning to live everyday as if it our last. But if you did this in the day and may die in your sleep you will have something great to dream of and remember as you spend your last day on Earth going into Heaven.
