That movie was so full off people that could have been up for an award that it is no wonder that one or more missed out on his chance.

Well, from my humble point of view Nicholson had the main role as Damon and Di Caprio, I don't know why they went for Wahlberg since he got a supporting role in the film.

Personally I think Wahlberg is the better actor and the nominations are based on acting not looks

To me, Damon looked like he was acting and Wahlberg seemed "to be" the character.

well, for me and my friends who watched the film (we discuss movies ;o) ) wahlberg did better in the film even though damon had a longer 'screen time'. plus, he was the only important character in the story that lived! that's gonna count for something right? ;o) peace!

Yeah, that seemed a little weird to me too. It was very similar to his role inFour Brothers, just in the fact that he played a hardass. I guess it was good though in the Departed. I def wouldnt say it was worth an oscar nomination

it had nothing to do with the size of the role, it's the skill of the actor.
