Don't know much about this one but my favorite short story from around ninth grade was Blood Flowers.

I don't remember how long this story was, but I read it when I was a student in my 9th grade honors English class, so I would say it's appropriate :)

that is a waaaaaaaaaay not appropraite reading level for 9th grade honors. I read that in my 8th grade regular class. We read the lottery in 8th grade too. I did the necklace in 7th grade, and then again in 9th grade honors [i switched schools before 8th grade]. In my honors english class in 9th grade we read the Cask of Amontialldo [not sure how you spell it... sorry] and A Man Called Horse.. and just stories like that to start off the year

Hi
If memory serves is this where some folks are being hunted by others? It is very appropriate for your age group, and from the plethora of your exclamation points and query marks, I think you are being asked to read it. You're probably accessing far more inappropriate material on the telly or online. Read it and make your own mind up here. Don't try to make up a case to drop your teacher into the muck pool. I'm nearly 66 and read it in junior high.

The Most Dangerous Game is in many 9th grade literature texts. Even though it was written in the 1920s, it still has strong appeal due to its ironic twist. There is a truly awful 1930s movie version which sometimes is titled, The Hounds of Zarrof.

whereas the content may be a bit controversial, it's a great read! as for the controversy, a lot of classical lit if read in the proper context is 'taboo' in today's sense!
