I think Hughes might be a bit of a sticking point, even though they'd be getting the best pitcher in baseball. I agree that Cabrera is often overvalued by Yankees fans, and I really don't think Kennedy projects as a great pitcher, but Hughes might be close to untouchable.
If I was the Yankees' GM, I'd pull the trigger because there are never any guarantees with a pitching prospect. I'd rather have the proven, Cy Young award winner than the kid who might be great. Even if Hughes develops into an ace, it's not like it would kill the Yankees. They have finally developed a nice farm system, and it could pay dividends in landing them an ace.

for Santana, you do it. This isn't just any pitcher, it's the best in the game.
Melky has decent potential and kennedy and Hughes sure look good, but it's a chance you take. Young pitchers burn out all the time (ask the Mets about their stud young pitchers in the mid-90s).
Johan is a sure thing. Guaranteed 20 wins with the Yankee offense behind him. 24-25 wins is not out of the question.

I hope that Melky showed enought to get Minnesotat to think he can replace Torii Hunter. That way the Yanks only have to give up one of those pitchers.
A rotation with Santana, Wang, Hughes (or Kennedy), and Mussina would be pretty sweet. Possibly Pettitte for another year if the young guy isn't ready and groom Chamberlain to take over for Mariano, who is NOT going to last for the 3 years of his contract.

I would do it in a second. While Hughes and Kennedy are good prospects, that is all they are, prospects. Cabrera is good defensively, but not anything spectacular from a hitting perspective.
Santana, on the other hand, is a bonafide ace capable of winning 20 games a season especially with that team behind him. His caliber of pitching is what the Yankees have been lacking lately. I'm not a Yankee fan, but If they make this deal happen, they will be a force to be reckoned with once again if Girardi can pull it all together.

sure, there are maximum of conflicting comments that the Yankees are in or out of the race for Peavy. At this factor it may take greater desirable than Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy to land Jake Peavy. Robinson Cano has had his call thrown into the rumors as nicely and the Padres ought to apply a 2d baseman which incorporate Cano to fill an entire. After this off season in spite of the undeniable fact that, San Diego is going to have quite some holes to fill. i do no longer see Peavy going to the Yankees. submit to in recommendations he can nonetheless block any commerce he needs and in basic terms simply by fact the Yankees have been thrown into the communicate does not advise Peavy desires to return to manhattan. Peavy will maximum in all threat be heading to a countrywide League group in the south. this could incorporate the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros.

Well supposedly the yankees might onli have 2 include Ian Kennedy and Austin Jackson and a couple of other prospects, but the smart thing to do is just go after Dan Haren. He is available and will come at a cheaper price and I seen him pitch, he has nasty stuff, but the Yankees do need a lefty so they should go after Santana. They just have to be smart in who they give up

Melky, Hughes and a minor league prospect are as good as gone. I'd do the deal in a heartbeat. I would NOT trade two of the three pitchers.

No I have said this a million times
My stance will not change every big name pitcher that comes into the big apple for the Yankees gets rocked
They need to keep young talent like they did in the 90's to win

I say we trade Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy, and Chase Wright. Phil Hughes is just too much to risk with that package. Once we trade Melky, we go after a solid center fielder like Andruw Jones or Aaron Rowand. Its a brilliant plan.
