Fill your sink halfway full of water, on both sides. Plug one side of the sink. and get a plunger. Yep good ole' fashioned Plunger, and plunge one side of sink making sure the plug doesn't come out of the other side. Plunge vigoriously for 20-30 sec and let go and see what happens. If it is still clogged then you need a drain snake or a good plumber.

My dad has fixed this problem before. Turn off the water at that sink (there are probably some turn off valves under the sink) or the main water for the house. Under the sink where the u shape in the pipe is can be opened with a wrench. If you put a bucket underneath this location first, it will catch any water in that u and then you can allow all of the gunk to come out of the pipe. It's probably just food that isn't able to go back up the other side of the u and is just stuck at the bottom. This sounds like more of a big deal than it is, but it can be a little sloppy. I'm guessing it takes 10 to 20 minutes to do. Good luck.

make sure the sink is empty first, (it's surprising how many people forget this step... me, for one!!!). place a bucket under the waste trap from the plughole, put rubber gloves on,then unscrew the waste trap. it will be full of gunk and water, thats what the bucket is for. clean it out and replace, nice and tight. If there's no gunk in the trap, you will have to get a flexible drain rod and poke it down the pipe running away from the sink, then tip some hot water and washing liquid down the pipe (i'm assuming that it is grease or fat blocking the pipe). If it is still blocked, you should be able to find where because the hot water will have warmed the pipe down to the blockage, after the blockage the pipe will be cold. If that doesn't work, you will have to get a drain rod and work UP from the drain/manhole to the sink. Just be careful you don't get soaked when it clears... If that doesn't work, then you will have to work down into the drain, or get a company to do it for you. Best of luck, mark

Try to get as much water out as you can. Plug one side of the sink and then dump a couple of 2 liter bottles of Coke down the drain. Sometimes this takes a while, but always does the trick for me! Good Luck!

the quick try would be to try and plunger it.
careful that it doesn't push/pull the trap apart underneath
if that doesn't work, you need to pull the trap off underneath.
the trap may clogged but it is probably clogged further down the line
if you don't have one you can purchase a hand auger at your local home improvement store and auger the line.
reassemble the trap and you should be back in business

PLEASE people stop using chemicals so freely...sigh
