The magnetic field only shuts off completely when the liquid outer core isn't spinning anymore or is used up and that will happen in some billion years, so nothing to worry about.
A reversal might happen in the near future but that doesn't mean that the hole field will shut off it will just get weaker and then realign, not really that much to worry about imo.

It won't shut off, it will simply switch poles and the compass will point south. We have evidence that it has happened several times in the past, But nobody knows when it will happen again. Because the earth has a iron core and as long as it spins, It will always have a magnetic field, So don't worry about it. Probably the worst that could happen is we will half to trade all our compasses with nations in the southern hemisphere. There compass needles are painted to point south! Or we could just use the unpainted ends on ours to show us where north is.

When ever the switch fairy deceids it's time....or if she has to go the bathroom and somebody runs and turns off the switch while she's in there....Until then it won't happen. The magnetic poles will only reverse and North would become South and vice-versa when it comes to Compass' and the Magnetic Field.
