They really aren't expensive at all. Purchase price of a trained (and by trained I mean, walks on a lead, can bid RIDDEN-oh yeah) camel is about $4000. WAY less than a horse and tons of people buy horses. Horse people are snobby and anyway my camel would definitely be able to kick **** on a horse. As for smelly..hmmm, that's why you'd need LOTS of land. Spitting?..only at your enemies...I wish I could have a penguin, to be honest, but since they're illegal as pets in the US, camel it shall be.

oh and about it being cold here. Probably some states would be uncomfortable for my camel, but they are raised in the US. Lots of camel farms in TX and TN..TN gets mighty cold.

They are extremely expensive to purchase. Also, one would be hard pressed to find a vet who knew anything about these animals. I had a hard enough time finding one that will take care of my goats!

EDIT I've heard of camels going for around 10,000 dollars, so I guess if you can find one for 4000 good for you. I don't know why it was said camels can't handle the cold, they actually adapt quite well in all climates. You just asked for reasons NOT to get a camel, so I listed a few of mine.

They probably smell. Terribly. Plus, I think it's too cold her to support the life of a camel, I think they need heat. Those are the reasons I would not buy a camel.

One: I don't really know how to take care of them.

I understand camels are very useful critters though- so if you have the land and want camels, go for it!

They Spit. And they can be really foul tempered.
