To add! Asking this question as my 5 year old daughter decided to be vegetarian, as she didnt want to eat animals (I am a meat eater by the way!). Now I have no problem at all with her decision, but i what i was shocked about is others. Family hide meat in her food, other parents are horrified - ive actually had somone coming up to be saying how i shouldnt accept it.

I don't think it's so much towards their lifestyle as towards their attitude. Often it's smug & superior. So it automatically invites attacks. I've been both & I get so tired of now as well as before hearing "murderer", "blood eater", "cannibal", you name it. I've known plenty of vegetarians every bit as mean and/or cruel as meat eaters. I've also known meat eaters who were kind & peaceable. It's always a choice & all should have it. Not just those who consider themselves capable of judging the world's actions by their opinions.
I've never seen or read anything negative about children vegetarianism. Though I have read numerous dr. articles on the dangers of introducing that lifestyle in a still developing body. So personally I can't comment on that beyond saying it's wrong to be negative towards a child.

because it's un-natural. Human beings are omnivores meaning we eat meat and vegetables. This is what evolution has proved to be the most successful diet for the human race. Because there are so many humans now there has been a need to 'farm' animals more efficiently to provide enough meat for humans to eat.
Many vegetarians cite the way that animals are kept as the reason why they are vegetarian. Now you can buy free range organic produce and yet still they chose not to eat meat and take a mildly superior stance to the omnivores amongst us.
I have a friend whos parents are vegan. They have a dog and they refuse to feed it meat, which is, in my book, cruelty. Dogs are carnivores plain and simple but because of their misguided beliefs they think anyone who eats meat are evil.
Get a grip veggies!! time to get in the real world.

Are people negative towards vegetarians or are they just ignorant of their way of living? My step daughter has been vegetarian for the last 9 years, it changed my way of cooking - for the better - and I respect her wishes totally. I only wish I had the courage of her convictions! Living in Spain it's not always easy to find places to eat when she visits, because to the locals in our village a vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat meat. When I explain she doesn't eat anything with a face they look at me as if I was mad, but when you take the time to explain what she can eat, they change completely. I think it's a question of understanding more, and explaining more.

Because some people are stupid, unthinking or caring..More people are turning Vegetarian everyday..Processed meat is now being linked to cancer..Besides with the cruel modern intensive farming, should make people ask themselves is this cruelty worth it..We grow enough to feed the World but corrupt government structures, deliberately do not mange this properly..If people ate the grain instead of feeding to animal, then eating animal much more efficient.. Next time you see a full grown pig penned so it cannot turn round,or Hens packed into barns, have a think..The lowest of the low has to be places like Huntingdon sciences,Doctors have told me these test are useless barbarically cruel and actually keeping us sicker..The list of failures is now quite spectacular....IF ITS GOT A FACE DONT EAT IT...My daughters never ate meat ever shes now 10 and doing fine..

I'm not negative at all - think it's great but sometimes feel quite inadequate to know just what to cook. My grand-daughter has always been a "veggie" even although none of the family is, and at 6 it moved from a taste thing to being a moral thing. I respect her and always try to find nice ways without meat for her.

I am a vegetarian, but I can understand why people are negative towards us. There could be one of two reasons, one is that they don't understand it, or want to because vegetarians are sometimes the bearer of bad news. Another is that a big part of their life/culture is meat or the meat industry and to have someone directly opposed to their lifestyle rubs them the wrong way. You dig?

I've not noticed negativity. I'm indifferent towards it, unless preached at me as though I where a criminal for eating meat.
It would be interesting to know what vegetarians do eat. I guess there are a lot of recipes.

The only real valid reason for not eating meat is if you genuinely dont like the taste

Some (not all) vegetarians are also very pro-animal rights and VERY vocal about it... and they aren't afraid to rub people the wrong way. They ruin your image with many carnivores/omnivores.
