If a couple who is getting married in a church, stands there before a minister and takes an oath of lifetime marriage in their "House of God", if you will, wouldn't it seem that if that couple gets divorced or separated, that they are breaking the oath to their god and religion? Isn't that an insult to your own faith?

Perhaps most people should be married in a court room rather than in a church if they don't really take their marriage vows and oath to each other and their god seriously or maybe think twice about getting married in the first place.

That's why Catholics believe marriage is for life no matter what.

Of course it is breaking your oath to God, that's why divorce was such a big deal in the middle ages, that's why Henry the eighth formed his own church, so he could get a divorce with the consent of the local church. The thing is people just don't take marraige as seriously as they used to. It's the next step in a relationship anymore, not the beginning of a new life as man and wife. But that's the way the world works, so maybe there is a good deal more merit in courthouse weddings than people credit, but the thing to remember is church weddings are traditional.

I was married in a church and took the oath. The reason you get married is to invite God into your relationship. Like I said I was married in a church and was divorced. I talked to my pastor about everything you are asking about. He said that if two people dont work the issue out then there is nothing that can be done. He also said that God never wants a divorce but a marriage conses of two people. I wanted to work things out but my ex-wife didn't.

Courts and churches has nothing to do with the
lasting of a marriage, it depends upon the two
people involved. I got married through the court
and the church, but my more than 20yr marriage
has lasted because we love, support, communi-
cate, commit, and do not cheat on each other, as
our actions speak louder than our words.
