Japs are waaaay advanced than America. How in the world did they do that???

A lot of extended ASCII characters, but that's it, really.

I've seen people of many varied ethnicities design some very nice ascii art. The above was very well done too. But it's simply practice, open notepad and character map and start finding characters that look like they fit where you want them to to make a picture.

I have seen programs that will generate ascii art if given a black and white image (they use a reverse OCR process).

Quite easily, its called ASCII art using regular keyboard "alt+numpad codes" to show "special" characters.

Example: Ñÿúƒ¥☺T

All the person did was put it in a certain order to make the image.

its not that hard, if you hold down alt and press a combo of numbers you can make signs like that. e.g. alt+1=☺ a smiley face
