I have a female lop -eared rabbit who is completely wild. She is a nightmare to catch and squeals like a guinea pig. Her brother is so calm and tame. How can I calm her down?

They are house rabbits

Getting her spayed is a start (if she isn't already), it helps to calm agression.

Also try spending more time with your bun. She should respond well to hand feeding but building up trust can take months. My female bun came from the RSPCA and she had lots of problems. It took a good year for her to completely trust me but if you put the effort in, it's worth it.

I've got 2 house rabbits and I don't pick either of them up unless they need their nails clipping. Rabbits are very easy to tame as they love food treats but the training has to be consistent. Mine have learned to get back into their pen if I clap my hands.

With patience. Feed her once in the morning once at night, build up a routine. when she is in her cage, gently stroke her, it will soothe her and she will like it, she will get to know your touch. talk to her whilst doing this. She is squealing because she is frightened. When she is out running round she will eventually flop down; offer her a treat;get as close to her as you can, if she runs off leave it on the floor for her. keep doing this, try getting on the floor to be at her level. If you keep feeding times regular she will go in her cage on her own when you put the bowl in. Time and patience to gain her trust is the answer. In time she will go in her cage by order or by putting a treat in as temptation. Never chase your bunny, gently encourage her towards her cage.

Don't try to catch her. Rabbit do not like to be picked up. Let her come and go as she pleases, if you can. If the cage is above the ground, add a ramp or put in on the ground. Use treats to get her to come to you, pieces of fruit or veggies work well. Let her come to you and don't push her to do things she doesn't want to. If you have to get her into the cage, encourage her and gently mover her, or put a treat in the cage.

Female rabbits can be like this. Just accept the fact that she is an independent minx and live with that. As long as you provide her with food, water and a dry place to stay, then she will be fine.

Accept that fact that not all domesticated animals like to be cuddled and are not really "tame".

What do you feed her? Additives and such can make children or pets hyperactive. She possibly just wants attention or jus make her more tired by giving her somethings to do rather than running around or being wild! The more active she is, the more tired she will become later.
