I'm graduating with just a bachelor's degree, but I'm wondering if that something families have parties for.

Yes, home schooled children get a diploma when they graduate. It will not be from the public school because they did not go there.* Most homeschooled students do not get a GED because you do not need a "General Educational Development Test," when you have valid transcripts. [The diploma is not *just* a piece of paper. It is worth whatever can be backed up by your transcripts.] If you homeschool through an online academy, virtual school, or through a private school, then that institution will award the diploma according to their own standards. If you homeschool as an independent family homeschool, the parents issue the diploma and that diploma is worth whatever is recorded on the high school transcripts. Graduation ceremonies vary widely. If you want a traditional cap & gown type ceremony, they are available but many homeschoolers are just as happy with a friends & family-reunion type backyard celebration. Often a graduation ceremony is part of an annual state convention and these can have hundreds of participating graduates and a big-name guest speaker. ============ *There are virtual charter schools in some areas which are public schools where the courses can be taken at home. They have their own rules. I am not talking about those.

Heck yeah, you should have a party for graduating. In fact, I think college parties should be more important than high school parties. These days, just about everyone graduates from high school - big deal. A college degree is a lot harder to obtain and should definitely be celebrated. Plus, people don't come out of high school in debt from student loans and expenses. You need a party to hopefully raise some money!!!

Good luck, hopefully your family has a similar view as me and will throw you a party.

Of course, the college party is supposed to be bigger than the high school party, some families also take the person on a big trip instead of the party! Congrats on graduating!!!

Usually that's just for high school. When my brothers and friends graduated college, we ended up just going out to dinner with our families and then partying at a bar later that night.

My parents threw me one when I received my bachelors. They had a lot of friends and family over and we barbecued and drank lots of beer! Aside from the family party, I also had a huge boat party with some fellow graduates and friends. It was an awesome weekend all around!

It is a growing trend to have one for your college grad. I think it would be great, but my dad died when I was still in college. I think that a bachelor's degree is something to be very proud of, and I think if your parents don't throw one for you, you should throw one and invite your graduating class.....maybe to get drinks at a club (that way you don't have to clean up behind them in the morning!)

Mostly high school. Usually college kids have their own party. Mom and Dad would get you a nice gift, assuming they have any money left and maybe a low key family celebration. If your parents supplied a significant amount of college funding, isn't that enough?
