Im 40 weeks and scheduled for induction in 8 days if spontaneous labor does not begin by then. The reason for only witing until 41 weeks is that my original due date was on the 20th and was pushed back after a 10wk ultrasound. Since the risk of fetal death grows the longer you wait and using my LMP numbers waiting could be riskier they scheduled an induction at 41(dec.5) which may more accurately be more like 43 weeks. I can back out if I want, my midwife has me taking 1500 mg evening primrose oil to help me continue to soften and dilatate, Im 60% effaced and about a centimeter and a half, but have been for about 3 weeks.
What would you do? Anyone have a similar situation? And did the oil help you prepare for labor?

ok Im not an idiot Im not going to d someting or not do someting just because someone on a forum told me to or not to. I just want an opportunity to hear other peoples experiences. I would rather not be induced because I want as little medical intervention as possible and would like to retain freedom of movement, which is compromised when you have an IV hooked up to you to pump you with pitocin. But since my sons movements have slowed in the last week considerably, even though he passed as nonstress test I worry about his well-being and the increased risk of stillbirth and other complications when pregnancy goes too far. So Im weighing my options- its still my decision at this point. I have the appt. scheduled but I can cancel it if I choose. So Im thiniking about what would be best for both of us.

personally (this is just me, since you asked!) i would try to wait it out... the risk of going past term is for POST-mature babies, the placenta ages & starts to function less effectively and the baby gets less nutrients & starts to lose weight. this can be monitored by your midwife and you could be induced at the first signs of this. (it's a fairly slow process).
i was born at 44 wks, and i didnt' have any signs of placental aging. i was actually *very* chubby! (not saying that's normal, just that it DOES happen; my bro was born at 43 wks, also fine)
(also, don't worry about LMP dates, likely you ovulated late in your cycle, hence the modification at your 10 wk u/s. ultrasounds are a more accurate indication of due date than LMP; if i went by mine, i'd be due in a week & 1/2, but i'm only 27 wks!! extreme example, tho)

I had an induction sceduled for 8 days after, too. But, I went into labor before then, because my due date was off! My daughter passed her stool, was thin, had dry cracked skin, and the doc had to (here comes tmi) go in and dig out the placenta because it fell apart and was mush...
Like you, my dialation stalled for the last 3 weeks, but when I went to the hospital, I was at 7. I was more likely 43.5 weeks instead of 40.5. I would let them try induction if you don't go before then.

I personally would not want to be induced unless medically necessary. 38-42 weeks is a normal timeframe for delivery. If I was reaching 42 weeks then I would allow an induction to take place, since going past 42 weeks is not good since the placenta starts to lose function.

I'm 37 weeks and if I can get my doctors to induce me on my due date I will!!
I wouldn't want to go much past 41 weeks - the placenta starts to age and does not do as good of a job giving your baby the nutrients it needs. I personally would worry about that and want to be induced.

I would my self let them induce me. I had problems with my baby being born 9 days over due. She had meconium liquor and is very lucky to be alive and with us today. So if I was in your case and could possibly be 43 weeks I would definitely go for the induction to be on the safe side. Good luck

I would avoid medical induction at all costs....Try everything else first...The baby can't stay inside forever.
Try walking, sex, nipple stimulation, spicy foods, orgasm...Make sure you are ating good quality sources of fat, like organic butter, and organic meats...Fat (good fats) are responsible for a majority of your hormone function...including protaglandin production...
LMP is very inaccurate...as I didn't ovulate until 3weeks after I started my period...That would have thrown off my due date by a week! You should be able to go to 42 weeks...at the very most. I would opt for non-strees tests if they are getting antsy! But hold off on the induction!

forget the oil and schedule the induction. my s-i-l tried the oil thing and it didn't work. she went over her due date by almost 2 weeks before she was finally induced and she ended up with severe toxemia when my niece was a week old and almost died. (dont mean to scare you)
i was also induced with my son the day before my due date (i have a big baby history) and everything was just fine

I think if your midwife wants to induce this late in your pregnancy they are probably right. I would induce in your situation even though you wanted to go all natural. If you are in labor before then though, woohoo!

I was induced with both of my kids. I never had to take any oil though. I am so glad they did cuz both of my kids turned out to be 10 pounds!
