Book:
The Stand by Stephen King and Wicked by Gregory Maguire
I also love the Harry Potter series, and there are a couple of books that I wouldn't put as all-time favorites, but that I enjoyed a lot:
The Time Traveler's Wife- Audrey Niffenegger
Jurassic Park- Michael Crichton
Movie: I don't really have a favorite... As TWITCH said: "I'm more of a TV series person. I love to sit down every week and watch a new installment". In a movie you only get to spend 90-120 minutes with the characters and the thrill of the plot. A tv show allows the characters to grow on you over time, as you learn more about them.
I'm very fond of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy though
