and child abusers and murders in nice warm prisons with 3 meals a day, cable TV and internet access? Not to mention work out rooms and all the free education and health benefits available to them.
Here's an idea:
Let's put criminals in less desirable surroundings and open the prisons to the homeless and people in need?
Agree?

I am not saying let the prisoners out to run free, I said put them in less desirable surroundings. Like an underground hole.

Yes, maybe there is help available to the homeless but it certainly is not as accesible as it is to prisoners. Nor is it handed out as freely.

There are actually alot of places and programs available for the less fortunate. In most cases, the homeless of America just want every thing given to them. The Salvation Army has shelters set up everywhere. There Homeless can get clothes, food, and shelter. They only have to follow some simple rules; stay sober, obey curfue, and get a job (which they will help you do). Most people stay homeless because they don't try. I know, I was homeless.

I won't even touch your main question. However, I think cities with ocean ports or harbors could use retired ships as shelters for the homeless. These ships could house hundreds if not thousands of people and they have the facilities to cook and care for these people.
In most cases, homelessness is caused by people who fall through the cracks. There are many different ways to get to the point of being homeless, but it can be very difficult to get out. Often because it's difficult to hold down a job when you don't know where you'll sleep at night and if you do hold down a job, you wind up spending most of your income just surviving and have a difficult time putting away the money needed to get into a house or apartment.
Obviously we need the homeless shelters and other services to help the immediate needs of those who are homeless. But we also need more programs and services to help people actually get out of homelessness.

People who are homeless have help available to them but many do not take it. Mental illness and substance abuse are two prevalent factors in many people who are homeless. A politically incorrect statement to make, but true nonetheless.
There is free easily accessible help in just about every city in the US. Believe me, everyone who is mentally capable know where to go and how to get help. Substance abusers who are sane are out on the streets begging for money because drugs and alcohol are just about the only things you cant get from these shelters and soup kitchens. There is quite a bit of govt assistance too.

the homeless suffer because our tax money is going to the prisons and prisoners. We should clear out death row. If they are no doubt guilty they should be put to death. instead of letting them live until they die naturally. Some might say that my views are harsh, but I say they are realistic. we should give the prisons to the homeless to live in, with the freedom to come and go as they choose, and put all prisoners on islands to fend for them selves.Maybe we would be lucky and they would kill each other off.

I am in. We need compassion for the people that really need it. I agree, in prison these criminals get three square meals, cable TV, exercise and doctor care. Things that are not readily available to the poor and needy.

b/c our gov't. sends our money to "help" foreign nations instead. I'm compassionate, but we should help our own first before sending billions(with a B) to those countries that hate us. Check out the United Nations Budget FYR 06. What's worse are the kids that are homeless, and our veterans who fought for us are denied help/treatment. This is why they turn to drugs and alcohol. I know one Marine, who tried to get treatment, but was turned down.
P.S. He has 1 Purple Heart, and 7 years of service

Since you noticed why don't you go out and invite one of those homeless people into your house and help them out? You have the ACLU and the liberals to thank for giving criminals the best money can buy. Why don't you ask them to help the homeless? They won't because they are too focused on getting rich and thinking about themselves.

Did you hear how nursing homes are starting to put Medicare patients out on the street because they loose too much money on them because of all of the cuts Bush has done!?!
I couldn't agree with you more! It certainly IS sad.

Yes, let the criminals run free on the streets and put the homeless people in jail.
Just so that you know, not everyone in prison is guilty and not everyone who is homeless is innocent.

Agree, but why confine homeless people? Why just put them in a more comfy place then?
